Use of SD Card in TT - opinions and ideas welcomed

After a brief struggle with my GO 720 I managed to download and install a new map to the internal memory.

Taking the good advice in here I have backed up before installing the map and also backed up the new map and the current build as it stands now.

I have a 4 Gb card in the 720 with nothing on it at present. What I would like to know is what the experienced members think of using it as a sort of standby backup in case the Int memory goes Pete Tong on a trip away from home.

My idea would be a complete mirror image of the internal memory that could take over, but is that possible?

If I copy all the files onto the SD card how does the TT select which one to boot from?

I'm sure greater minds in this forum have a cunning plan for the SD apart from the obvious Mp3 and media stuff.

There's no problem with what you're suggesting at all.
The way it works is that the TomTom looks at the SD card first and if it sees a valid operating system it will boot from that. If it can't find one it moves onto the internal memory and boots from the software on that.

You can even use the card to "dual boot" with a different software version, although there can be some issues with settings files being written to the device by an old software version that aren't understood by a new version or vice versa.
