Hiya Mike
Call me tight but I bought a used GPSlim 236 from the States. £26 delivered which I thought was a good deal. Notwithstanding your comments re battery life, it's a great unit. My VPx saw it immediately and it got a fix in the house in seconds, something my GPS12XL would never achieve, requiring a minute of unobstructed sky to lock on.
My SD cards have arrived and I'm all set for my forthcoming Lake District trip
Thanks again

Sounds like a good bargain system you have put together, the GPSlim236 is still a very good receiver even though its a few years old by now. I guess this little lot has cost less than £100 which isn't bad at all.
I would suggest you go out on some local short walks with the device running a map to get used to it before you suddenly get stuck in the middle of the fells - Mike |

Yeah. I'm well chuffed. Under a ton and loads of other functionality like office docs and stuff, not to mention wifi etc.
I'm tryin to set up Mini GPS Viewer. It's finding the GPS ok but the program closes after a few seconds and I have to re-open it and find the GPS again, only for it to exit again. Are there any good free GPS apps knockin about?

Not sure exactly what you mean by GPS app - but GPSMAP-OS is free and you can run a free trial of Tracky. |

I was just wondering if there are any PPC apps which have some GPS functionality like a compass screen, an arrow showing direction/distance to next waypoint etc.
GPSMAP-OS seems similar to Memory Map, but Tracky looks great. Will DL it tomorrow. At work at the moment on nights :o((
