Map Update Subscription - Changing Maps

I am currently running the UK & ROI maps on my 530T unit and I have about 6 months left on my quarterly map update subscription.

As proof that you never know what lies around the corner I now find that I will soon be travelling extensively through Europe for a while and I now wish to "upgrade" to the Western Europe map set as a result.

No problem with purchasing that map set BUT does anyone know what effect that would have on my UK & ROI maps updates subscription? I fear that I may in effect "lose" the last 6 months of the UK & ROI subscription and would have to take out a fresh update subscription to cover the entire area. Is that correct?

I am not too bothered about updates on the Western Europe maps but I suspect that map set will overwrite my UK & ROI set when I purchase it. As I will still be travelling as much in the UK as mainland Europe I wish to keep subscribed to the UK & ROI updates if possible.

The European map is a completely different name so it shouldn't be overwritten at all, but to be on the safe side I would take a full windows explorer backup BEFORE you add the European map to the device.

You will need an SD card for the new map as it will be larger than the available capacity from the internal Flash memory. Consider something like a 4GB or 8GB SDHC card for the device, plenty of room for the extra map and some mp3 tracks to keep you happy while driving.

As for the map upgrade, keep the UK&ROI map update going until it runs out as you should get a couple of extra maps out of this, once its expired considered getting the map update scheme for the European map as it contains the same UK data as your UK&ROI map, you will have to switch between the Western Europe map and the UK&ROI map though if you do this.

TBH if you can wait for another month (ish) for the European map you will get a new one - I am sure once it launches there will be news of this on the forum within a few hours, this might be the time to purchase your new map as it will be more up to date than the current UK&ROI one you have, this way you would only waste 3 months of the old update scheme - Mike
