IIRC the 940 adds MP3 and Audio Book support as well.
Full comparison here. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Main difference is more storage space for the extra maps, the 540 is UK&ROI the 940 you get Western & Central Europe as well as North America, the 940 also has the EPT system for navigation in tunnels or when the GPS signal is lost (not much use in the UK at the moment as tunnels have a direct path through them) - Mike |

At risk of sounding like a Pantomime, 'oh no it doesn't'! EPT is only fitted to the 940. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Oh - I thought it did - just checked my manual ( new unit just came ) and my mistake - is a generic manual that includes the 940 too, and I misread it as being for both

No problem, I went and double-checked as you'd got we wondering! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Agreed that you probably don't need EPT to find your way through the tunnels, although I think one of the Mersey tunnels does have a branch off underground. However, once my TT 6.100 looses satellites it gives up routing completely until it gets a signal again, so I can't tell what direction I'm supposed to take at the end of the tunnel. I've repeatedly taken the wrong turning when exiting the tunnel (and the one way system doesn't allow me to correct my mistake easily!), because the iPAQ rx5720 takes too long to regain a signal. On the 940 it does tell me, while still underground, which direction to take. I haven't used a 540 or 740, so I don't know whether the improved reception would allow the route to be sorted out before the roundabout? _________________ Jock

The EPT also helps where you have speed cameras in and at the exits to tunnels as it continues to give the warnings. An example of this being approaching the road works with SPECS around the Bell Common tunnel J26-J27 on the M25.
It also helps at time where you can get a poor signal such as on the lower deck of double decker roads such as the A40 Westway/Harrow Road and the M4/A4 Chiswick-Brentford.
Again if you do not know the area it can be useful for lane guidance in situations such as leaving the Dartford tunnel for M25 exits J31 and J30. Coming out of the East bore and trying to get in the left lane to exit here can be tricky for nervous drivers in fast moving, tailgating, heavy traffic.
Again if you don't know the area it can be useful coming out of multi-storey car parks such as the Harlequin in Watford heading for the M1 and not wanting to do a tour of the one-way. However it only works if you parked on the roof or moved across the roof from one park to the other before going out of satellite sight. EPT needs to calibrate from GPS before it can start working. _________________ Drivelux |
