Hi all

According to the user guide the ETA calculated on an estimated speed input by the user

Could it not be based on an actual average speed during the route

What do people think ?

Many thanks for your time

Regards

Mike

Quite agree,I have always thought this was a bit Heath Robinson.

Other GPS's seem to be able to do it, I don't know why Satmap can't.

Surely if you are being "tracked" by satellites they know how fast you are going.I wouldn't have thought it was too hard to icorporate this into a display.

The GPS is working out your instantaneous and average speed all the time and the Active 10 will display this for you, so they should be able to use either to guesstimate an arrival time. It would rely on you resetting the log information before each trip as logging a very hilly walk would not have any bearing on average speed on the flat (or on a bike).

I have suggested in the past that GPS manufacturers should use the average speed over the last 10 mins (or similar period) as an indicator - this starts to take into account changes in conditions etc and is as good a guesstimator as anything else.
