HI,
Bought ttn6 for my PDA last year and with you guys help got it working fine in the UK, it is mounted in a Arkon cradle with built in GPS.....So took it to Spain last week and mounted it in the car at Malaga airport and it says "No valid satallite signal" and stayed like that for the week....without fiddling with it put it back in the car in UK and worked fine.
Would appreciate any thoughts on this as i am quite miffed after purchasing ttn6 and finding that it will not work abroad,
Thanks in advance |

It'll work fine abroad. What you may have been experiencing is the signal being degraded by the windscreen. Many cars have athermic screens that would block or the satellite signal on older receivers.
Newer receivers are not affected by this issue. I'll bet if you had tried it outside the car it would have worked fine. _________________ Darren Griffin |

yeh i thought of that and when i dismounted it it didnt make any difference,i went into the GPS display and normally when all is well the coloums are jumping about and are blue but it was only displaying 2 coloums that were static and were grey in colour...this was the first time for me using it abroad and didnt know if this was normal behaviour or satalite aquasition was slower??/black spots??
Cheers again |

More likely it just needed to download a new almanac as it had moved so far. This would necessitate you leaving it in clear view of the sky for 10-20mins.
Have a read of this:

Quote: | If you are attempting a lock having re-located more than a couple of hundred miles since your last fix then the ephemeris data will in most cases no longer be valid. The receiver will be looking for satellites in the sky above that cannot be seen because of your re-location. In this case the receiver will initiate a factory start and begin downloading both almanac and ephemeris data. This will extend the initial time to lock considerably. |

Trying to acquire a satellite signal while on the move makes the task doubly hard... _________________ David |
