CTIA 2009 Las VegasApril 1st - 3rd 2009, Las Vegas will oversee the convergence of more than 1,200 exhibiting companies, dozens of industries, and over 40,000 professionals from 125 countries. CTIA Wireless 2009 has been feted as the most important global technology event of 2009.

CTIA represents the $500 billion/3.8 billion customer worldwide wireless industry and PocketGPSWorld.com are proud to have been chosen as Official CTIA Media Partners and we will of course be in attendance at the show as usual.

CTIA has a history of attracting world class business and political speakers such as Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Richard Branson and Bill Gates.

This year is no exception. Al Gore, Nobel Peace Prize recipient and Academy Award winner, will give a keynote speech at the 'greener' CTIA this year. Gore is a member of the board of directors of Apple and a senior advisor to Google. The ex US Vice President's speech will be just one small part of this huge event which brings together all industries affected by wireless technology for three days of learning and networking.

Steve Largent, CTIA president and CEO said, "Vice President Gore has a long history of demonstrating leadership in the advancement of environmental and technology initiatives, and we are delighted he's joining us to share his insights and perspectives regarding these important developments."

He added, "The wireless industry is uniquely positioned to help facilitate a greener and more productive world by allowing customers to make more environmentally conscious decisions and utilize high-speed telecommunications in their personal and professional lives. I know how important both of those areas are to Vice President Gore, and his address will mark another occasion in which the CTIA keynote stage will serve as a platform for global thought leaders to present their visions for the future."
Despite the economic downturn, it is predicted that the navigation industry will continue to increase its already robust presence at the annual show. This strong representation is in no small part due to the huge increase of take-up of GPS and location based services (LBS) on mobile wireless systems. Navigation centric companies attending will include Garmin, deCarta, NAVTEQ, Route 66, Tele Atlas, Arknav, Networks In Motion and Trimble. Of course there will also be hundreds of other mainstream wireless companies with more than a passing interest in things GPS such as Nokia, Motorola, Ericsson. Fujitsu, HP, Hitachi, Kyocera, T-Mobile and Research in Motion (makers of the Blackberry).

Ensuring things don't get too serious, there will be two leisure and networking events sandwiching the conference. The CTIA Golf Championship will tee off from Bali Hai Golf Club, Las Vegas Strip on the 31st March and comedian, Billy Crystal will host the CTIA Wireless Gala on the 4th April.
