Having recently subscribed, and set the Liz voice to each category, which takes a while, I was a bit fed up to see that my Go730 had gone back to the first sound, a chime, after I had updated to the 30 Sep 09 database. Is this usual - I don't particularly want to spend time restoring the individual alerts to each category every time I update?

Welcome to the forum, Mike.

No, this shouldn't happen. Did you perhaps remove the ogg files from your device when you installed the new database?

Your settingsa are stored in a file called 'MapSettings.cfg' in the folder for the map you're currently using.

Sometimes this file gets overwritten when you do a SOFTWARE update of the TomTom, or if you use the on-screen emulator in TomTom's 'Home' utility (did you also do that?) and sometimes the TomTom loses it just by itself!
But it should never get reset just by updating the PGPSW camera data.

What you can do to in the future is get the warning settings just how you like them and then make a copy of that 'MapSettings.cfg' file.
Keep it somewhere safe, either on your PC or it can happily sit in the same map folder on the TomTom itself if you leave it called "copy of MapSettings.cfg" or something similar.
Then if you ever lose your warnings again, you simply make another copy of your copy and rename it back to MapSettings.cfg.
Your warnings and settings will all be restored to where they were.

(This usually works fine, but sometimes a new software version changes the format of this file slightly and restoring your old copy stops the machine booting. We can refer you back to a previous forum fix if that ever occurs)

Dear Anita and Andy_P,
Thanks very much for your replies. Yes, I did use the on-screen emulator so that's probably what happened. I'll back up the MapSettings.cfg file as you suggest, and it's comforting to know that updating the database doesn't mean having to reset the warning settings each time.
Thanks again and kind regards,
Mike
