When ever I download mapshare corrections, they appear to download in a few seconds but then Home seems to spend around 3 mins processing them. I first assumed this was the delay in putting them over the USB but the unit is not showing the red X do not disconnect icon which it usually does when communicating by USB.

Do other experience this delay after download? I might as well ask before trying to fix a problem I can't.

I have a fast Xeon PC and am using USB2 so it is not hardware issue.

I think that this is normal behaviour. Not good software, but normal.

I don't think so mine are processed in a matter of seconds

Totally normal behaviour for me....
I just did a 0.6 MB update for a Go940 and it took about 2min30 sec, but I'd only updated a couple of days previously, so it was a small download.

Think yourself lucky... in older versions of Home, it took even longer.

I've no idea exactly what it's doing, but it seems to download some raw data and only then decide how to process it for your map.

Yes, my experience too. I do tend to update every other day so there should not be too much data, but the download part goes quickly but the installation takes its time. ;-(

Admitably I only have UK map but it really only takes 30 seconds top for the whole process including download and processing. It may even be quicker. Do you have USB2 on your pc?

Yes, I all my USB connections are USB2 (on my laptop/Vista & PC win XP SP3) - I wonder if it is because I have 31 active countries on my device?
I'll have a look later today (is that the time Confused ) and put a stopwatch on it.

That will be the reason. With a Western and Central Europe map, and all the "country" boxes ticked or correction, it has up to 31 times more information to process, I guess!

I have just carried out an update - this the total for both the download and install of the Quick GPSfix and the map updates..the total time taken was 3 mins 26 seconds and I think that the first part QuickGPSfix took 20 seconds making the map updates 3min 06 secs.

So Mr T, who started this thread, your time is roughly in line with mine - so just grin and bear it. Nothing wrong Wink
