Time sequence ONE
1. You post.
2. Somebody replies.
3. You go back and edit your post.
At the bottom of your post it says you've edited it.
Time sequence TWO
1. You post.
2. You edit your post (no timescale, simply edit before anybody else replies, be that now or next week).
Nothing shows that you have edited it - anybody reading it tomorrow will have no idea that you had a spelling mistake or whatever you edited in/out. Anybody reading it BEFORE you edit it, will look at it again tomorrow, confident in their memory that you made a mistake, only to find it doesn't have a mistake and they've been dreaming it - nothing there to show you edited it before they came back to it.
Time sequence THREE
1.You post
2. Somebody starts typing a reply based on what they see - that page remains frozen on their screen whilst they are typing and contains whatever you wrote, to which they are replying.
3. You edit your post and complete the editing BEFORE somebody hits their own Submit button.
Let's say you have corrected the spelling of Konundrum to read conundrum. The person types that you don't spell it with K, but with C. Then hits Submit. But by the time they submit, you've already corrected it and because nobody had posted before you completed your edit, there is no indication on your post that you have edited it, Konundrum is now spelled with a C and the person pointing it out looks a numpty.
So, simple answer is that if you edit your post fast enough, nobody knows. Except the poor numpty who is slowly typing "You can't spell!!". And all the rest of the people who are watching and reading the posts with undivided attention and who saw the first submission with the misspelling, alanji, for example.
If you feel utterly compelled to edit a post after you've hit the submit button, it is only proper for you to include with your edit a bold phrase somewhere saying you've edited it and why. If you make a habit of it, you will find yourself being treated the way a previous practitioner was treated - every one of his posts was immediately quoted in its long boring entirety (or copied and pasted into a file on home PCs) before he could edit them beyond recognition. _________________ Dennis
OK that's how I thought I had read it worked. Although I appreciate the detailed explanation, you could have saved yourself a lot of typing with the word "yes"
I will now in future preview before posting and if I edit will explain why. _________________ Tony
