Map version 7.xxx v 8.xxx

This may seem like a stupid question but if I am currently using a series 7 map, and regularly take the mapshare updates, why would I need a series 8 map?

Surely, if the series 7 map is kept up to date via this method wouldn't it contain all the information that is contained on a series 8 map?

I still use the GO 510/710 and am considering changing my current series 7 Western & Central Europe map with the Western & Central Europe 2GB series 8 map . . . . if it is much better and worth the £80?

Any thoughts would be fab . . . . thanks

Currently MapShare updates only apply to the Map that they were reported on. If you have a UK Map Vxxx, they won't appear for a UK Map Vyyy or a Western Europe Map Vxxx.

As to the question 'is it better with the newer maps', I'm afraid the jury is still out on this one. It is still very hit and miss.

I've been reporting the same map errors since 2004 that are still not on the V825 Map. Evil or Very Mad

Thanks for the reply Richard. That would explain it then, Mapshare only updates the original version of the map I am currently using.

I'm probably being thick about this but I still find it difficult getting my head around this one. Surely if a new road is added/closed or road layout changed it would be naturally updated through Mapshare and would therefore be as up to date as a newer purchased map.

I'm obviously not getting this at all as there would never be any point in bringing out new maps otherwise you could buy any old map and have it updated through Mapshare.

The other thing to realise is that Mapshare corrections can only alter the details of the exiting map.
The "lines on the ground" are fixed and cannot be added to or deleted by Mapshare.

You *can* report new roads etc. via MapShare but those changes cannot be actually done until a future map release.
So Mapshare in it's present form is only really for minor changes.
