I am just about to upgrade my TT910 to a 740, however I have seen no mention in any marketing literature of a remote control. What's the score here, I currently make extensive use of my 910 remote control. I see mention on this forum of a Bluetooth remote control - is that a 3rd party option ? I m guessing that TT (in their infinite wisdom as usual) have decided that voice activation eliminates the requirement for a remote. _________________ Tony

No, no, no, not compatible - yours is wireless, new one is bluetooth. If you go for one, be aware that one function on yours isn't available on the new one, namely you cannot browse around the map with it (left, right, up, down), the arrows have been taken up by zoom in/out. I found this an incredibly backwards step as I often used it to browse map, hands free, reliably. In case you're wondering, it does work in parallel with bluetooth phone, that is, it pairs at the same time. I have not tried using it whilst in the middle of a phone call though.
If you get a 930 instead of a 740 (and maybe cheaper), you'll get one free.

That's bad news on the arrow keys. So what happens about selecting text characters from the on screen keyboard with the remote ?
I can't get a 730 as my whole reason for upgrading is to get HD traffic (and anyway, too late, I've just ordered my 740 from Amazon)

Pity about the order - didn't you read all the unfavourable stuff about HD traffic? Or did you just think £8 a month (nearly £100 a year) would be worth it anyway? If you decide to find some valid reason for cancelling it or returning it, I see Amazon have the 930 (not 730) at £20 cheaper than the 740! Within the first 30 days, you've got Latest Map Guarantee and free application software updates to give you everything but the LIVE stuff (and you'll still have FM transmitter and MP3 player, which 740 hasn't got).

I've done a lot of reading of forum feedback on HD traffic, here and elsewhere. Perhaps I'm just the optimistic type, but I have read a lot of good stuff amongst the bad, enough to give it a punt. I drive Leeds to Oxfordshire every week, mainly motorways with 3 different but equal length routes, so all I really need are motorway reports and from what I've read HD should give me that reasonably reliably. I've given up trying to connect mobile phones to my 910 for TMC traffic, just had so many problems failing to connect, also tried the TMC receiver, absolute disaster. I just want something that is plug and play without trailing wires everywhere. It's a safety issue as much as anything, otherwise I get tempted to use my iPhone to access traffic programs or websites while driving.
Anyway, it's a good self justification for me to buy the latest and greatest, my 910 is a bit big and chunky, and there are other new bells and whistles on the 740.
Talk about creeping spec, this all started because I wanted the latest UK map :-) Still, at least not buying the map will pay for the remote control. _________________ Tony

Having now used the remote control, I actually quite like it, feels very comfortable to use. My only bugbear is the initial pause while it pairs with TT or whatever it's doing. Don't know why they couldn't have just stuck with the previous wireless technology. _________________ Tony
