I have a Navman S90i (from January 2008) with West European maps, and a HP iPAQ 914, with TT Navigator 6, also with West European maps.

I'm at a loss to decide which manufacturer to commit to, as going with both is too expensive to contemplate.

I like the Navman's features and large screen, but with Tomtom I always have my satnav with me, as it's on my 'phone.

Any comments would be gratefully received Very Happy

You have a very limited legal upgrade path with the TT on your phone. TT are refusing to release TTN7 for aftermarket sales and without that version you cannot buy TT's latest maps. The ones you have on TTN6 will probably be at least 2 years old by now.

Even if you can get TTN7 via the backdoor and buy the V815 maps there is no guarantee that it will work on the HP914 - and TT "support" Rolling Eyes will not help you.

There is other software available for PDAs and phones but I am not sure what would work on your phone and what is best.

It would be interesting if somebody could actually show what overall improvements TomTom/Teleatlas have actually made in the mapping between V6 and V8 IMHO Not very much the main improvements appear to be in functuality.

For one issolated example check the A1M interchange with the M62 and the new road layout for a considerable distance South of this location on the A1M - for a number of months the maps were ahead of the road construction!
V6 maps had you in the fields on large sections of this revised road layout, V8 is rather more accurate - Mike

Mike. I did say overall, undoubtfully some places have been updated but some have been whoefully neglected, check shakespere st,biggin street and dead lane in central loughborough against the Pgpsw hybrid map and the teleatlas insight map after being altered six years ago this is disgusting, I again reported this 2 days ago and recieved ackowledgement for the sixth time over 2 yrs and ist still not changed, when i finally see this changed I will accept that maps are being updated and Teleatlas are actually taking notice.

Yes there are issues and Navteq are not immune either but to suggest there have been no improvements to the actual data is of course wholly false. Quite how you'd expect them to publish changes I'm not sure? The list would be very long and would be a boon to their competitors I fear!

Having said that, map currency is a big concern to us and of course we all want to see issues resolved much more quickly. Why some long standing errors continue to remain is something we would all like answered. This is an issue we continue to press with TeleAtlas and Navteq at every opportunity.

There is a mini-roundabout near a relative of mine that is shown on the digital map but which has never existed. I'd love to know how such things get onto a map in the first place, had it been removed I could understand but as it never existed it does make you wonder!

Thanks for everyone's comments. I've now read many of the post regarding TTN7, so I don't think I'll go down that route (sorry Rolling Eyes )

I see that Co-Pilot 7 is an option, as it the Garmin Mobile XT. I get the impression that Co-Pilot is the more favoured choice, and I like the comparitively small cost of the traffic updates (£34.95 for 2 years).

I did not expect any map producer to publish any list but poeple say My area is uptodate and another person says mine is not. but to be six years out of date is severely inexcusable, incidentley the above map/picture is uptodate in Navteq TTN V6, the other point is that whichever unit you use which use Teleatlas maps is going to have the same problem and surely updating the Maps should be the first priority but appears not.
Taking your comment Darren how is the public to know which maps are more uptodate, do you follow TomToms adverts claiming updated maps and blindly waste your money.
