Got my faulty unit replaced with a New TomTom 720.
Unit came shipped with app 7.21 and maps 7.15

Internal
Have backed all the 7.21/7.15 files off the internal unit (including hidden files) to main PC.

SD Card (4Gb)
Have copied the backed up files back onto the 4Gb SD Card
Updated the unit to App 8.3 and maps 8.15 and Voice Kate 693 ??
Backed up again to main PC.

Want to try out the x40 8.204 version of the app with 8.15 maps.
(I don't use gprs or the Jukebox function, I do use the unit with my Nokia as Hadsfree on a Ad-Hoc basis.)

Whats the best way to go about trying version 8.204 for a while and then maybe reverting back to 8.3 later?
Links to download, voices, step-by-step instructions would be really appreciated.

Hi Devastator,

If you have fully backed up your current configuration (Navcore 8.3 and 8.15 maps) you should be ready to try out 8.204. Have a read through this thread, it should give you all the information you require:-
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=72221
Please report back when you have tried it Smile
It will be interesting to hear your impressions.
If you do get any problems you can always delete everything main TomTom directory and copy the complete uncompressed backup of Navcore 8.3 and 8.15 maps back on to your TomTom.

Oh btw TomTom juke box works fine with 9.204 on my 920T

Which of these files is the best to use:

navcore_8.204.9718.go540-go740.cab
navcore_8.204.9718.go940.cab

Is it a matter of extracting the cab file to the SD card using Winrar or is there more to it? any further files to change or configuration?

Is this the best way?

I used 'navcore_8.204.9718.go940.cab' on my 520 without any problems.

Use the complete copy of your existing file system on your SD & extract the cab file over this using winrar & the 'replace' option. The TomTom will boot from the SD card when it's inserted

OK, have done this, got 8.204 to install OK and load.

Tried on a trip and everything works except there is no voice, no matter which voice I select? (I normally use Jane or Kate's voice).

Any ideas on how to get sound/voices working, with this release.?
They worked OK with 7.21 and 8.3...

First try a pin reset - then:-

If your certain thats sounds & voices are both switched on go into home & see if you can redownload the voices.

If that doesn't work save the 8.204 Loquendo to your computer & copy back the previos working Loquendo from your backup & see if that works.

Have tried the Pin reset and that didn't help.

Only option I could see in Home was through - Add Maps, Voice etc - Items on My Computer and then just re-add Kate's voice.
I haven't done anything with Jane's voice yet this still doesn't work either..

Tried a working Loquendo after saving the 8.204 one and it's not working.

Any other sugestions, is there anything else I can try or do?

If your application is on the memory card and you have enough spare capacity try copying the LoquendoTTS folder from the device memory to the root of the memory card - Mike

Yes, App and Maps are on memory card (originally had 8.30/8.15 and then updated app to 8.204/8.15), I left the original install with v7.21 on the internal.

Are you saying take the LoquendoTTS folder from the 7.21 install on the internal and copy to memory card?

This may work, there have been instances in the past when booting from the card that certain other folders had to be present on the card for the software to find them. Its not 100% but worth a try - Mike
