Apologies if this has been covered before but I couldn't find it.
I want to move the default folder for MM5 overlay and other files. I have identified an 'Overlay' folder that is updated whenever I close MM, but cannot find any setting that specifies the location, not even in the registry.
If I close MM and then move or delete the overlay folder, it is simply recreated when MM next opens (actually the folder is saved when MM closes).
Because of reduced disk space, its necessary for me to tidy things up, and I want the folder in location where it will be backed up as it contains waypoints and routes etc.
Any ideas? I get the feeling this is one of those things that is either dead easy, or totally impossible

Unfortunately the default overlay location is hard wired into the code: it is always C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\Map Overlays.
This path does get placed in a registry key but changing it won't do any good, MM overwrites it with the above value each time you run it. (For the techies, it uses the SHGetSpecialFolderPath Function to obtain it).
This would seem in keeping with their desire to keep these things fixed, e.g. the installation directory is always c:\Program Files\Memory-Map\OS-5 regardless of where you specify, but at least you can change that one manually if you know what you are doing.
The installation folder is as you say, whilst the overlays are in D:\My Folder.... because thats my default folder in place of C:\my Docs and settings etc.
I never install to the C drive, so this must also be a fixed path as I would've changed it given the chance at installation.
So, I have files and folders scattered over my C D and E drives, belonging to memory Map and my Garmin etrex. Seems funny that manufacturers of Navigation equipment don't trust me to navigate through my own pc whilst seemingly being content for me to use their products to roam throughout the country and wider afield without restriction. it's a wonder the products don't refuse to allow me to plan routes in areas they consider I shouldn't go to!
