Hi,
I look forward to getting your regular email updates, but you could do everyone a big favour by reducing the resolution of the graphics you use. They take AGES to download on an 8Mb link, and eons on slow links. PLEASE reduce the resolution somewhat
I like the new system to publish names of new lifetime members. I hope I didn't miss out by not checking this earlier, as I was sure I must have got a new camera in before anyone else!
Keep up the good work! |

They shouldn't! Are you sure you have an 8Mb link? The last Newsletter was about 280kb which is relatively small and the images are not embedded but pulled live from the website so should cause no issues.
I can happily download the newsletter on a phone using a relatively slow GPRS data connection. For ADSL and other broadband connections 280Hb is a trivial amount, very small indeed. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi,
Many thanks for the reply. That's very interesting. I do have an 8Mb link, but my email is received into Outlook from my ISP. Outlook des not download images in emails initially, but asks if you want them. This happens with all email, and speeds up the receipt of emails into your local inbox. It is when I ask for them to be downloaded on your emails that it is apparent that the time taken to download the images is far greater than on any other similar email that I get from other sources. I am in the IT business, and I have been puzzled by the slowness of this for some time. It seems that one of two reasons is the cause. Either the images are large, or for some obscure reason my ISP doesn't like delivering yours, but is happy with others! I've just done a test. Loading email from ISP by opening it in Outlook (without images) took about 2 seconds. Images took a further 16 seconds!
Perhaps it is down to the way the images are embedded by linking them to the web page rather than embedding them in the email? I guess my PC has to then retrieve them from your web site? Still odd though, as this technique is used by many people.
My link is definitely running close to its stated speed. I use Zen Internet who are one of the best around. Interestingly my IE loads your home page in about 2 seconds.
It would be interesting to poll other people on this issue?
Regards,
Mike

10 Mb Blueyonder ISP takes less than a second to download.
Perhaps it's your Anti virus? |
