Western Europe GPS and walking

Hello, I am in search of a GPS to be used primarily Germany, Switzerland and Italy. I have read mixed reviews on the Garmin 270 and 275T.
I need something simple that I can use while I walk the larger cities in the above mentioned cities.
The complaints with the Garmin units are lack of signal and directions made for driving use rather than on foot.
Any suggestions?
