hi

I bought my tomtom 720 as it had street level mapping of western europe, think the map was from another map maker and not teleatlas could and probably be wrong though.

Will this map have street level mapping of Jersey and Northern Ireland, I am assuming it has due to the street level part.

Anybody shed any light on this.

Cheers

Nigel

I'm pretty sure the 720 mapping was by TeleAtlas, just like the majority of TomTom models. There were a couple of models with Navteq mapping, but I don't think the 720 was one of these.

Press the signal strength meter on your main screen, and then the small area which has the software version number displayed. you will then see a Copyright button at the bottom of the screen - press this and you will see details of who provided the map.

You should have mapping of both Jersey and N.I. - my 520 does, although for some strange reason, Jersey isn't postcoded. Can't you attempt to navigate to one of these places to find out?

as long as it does a decent level of coverage in both N.I and Jersey

it seems to have clocked the post code and street so fingers crossed

Some people prefer one map provider to the other, generaly this will depend upon where you live/ use the device.
Both mapping providers will contain errors, having used maps from both of them I tend to think the TA maps are better, but the NT map has got one local major road junction mapped better than the TA, this is something I can live with though - Mike

The level of mapping of "out of the way" places (as far as TeleAtlas is concerned!) is improving all the time.

Northern Ireland has always been reasonable, it was Eire that took a while to get covered. But Eire has been good for some time now.

Jersey looks like it is covered fine on the v7.15 maps and I think it was OK on the base map that came with my 720 (I'd rather not have to put it back on just to check). Gurnsey also looks OK on my v715, but I'm sure I remember reading that this is a pretty recent addition so it may not be on yours yet.

Don't forget yo can use "Browse map" to check the level of detail anywhere on your map.

If you bought the 720 new, you can also update to one of the latest maps for free. This will either be a v7 map if you stick with v7 software, or a v8 map if you opt for the v8 software update.
