Almost too incredible for words....

But I switched on my 940 to be greeted with a message telling me there was a new free map waiting for me! I guess it got this notify from going online.

I then docked my 940 to be greeted with a re-download/update of safety cameras AND a new software update to 8.204.

After doing this, I then used the latest map guarantee and got offered BOTH European and American 815 maps. They are downloading right now.

Thats the first time I have seen LMG provide both US and Europe maps properly!

Check and see whether both will have TTS and VR.

I did not get any notification on my device even though I have been playing with it for a lot of the day. However TT Home told me there is a new version of the application which I cannot see any difference in and has now offered me the 8.15 maps, but 4GB is going to take some downloading.

I suspect the files will contain TTS but it may NOT install them. By default TomTom only installs TTS for certain countries even on the European map...but if you download the full maps, you will find the other voices are sitting there, but just not installed. I will check though..

I am sure I am missing something obvious but whats VR?

Okay..well I can answer the first part. As expected, when updating maps, it only copies the cspeech files that were already on the machine (which does not include US for a European model).

However the archive files it downloaded do contain the cspeech files for the US and a bunch of European countries...so space permitting they can be copied across and then it will work.

As for the voice recognition. I don't see any specific files for that. Are they just part of the cspeech files?

That is a tough one to answer......

Originally, european 720's had VR automatically and North American 720's did not. Someone discovered that if you had map level at least 7.10 of North america AND firmware at least 7.221 AND provided a 'hack' file of just the value '1' with no quotes, carriage returns or anything else in a text file simply called support_asr.dat (NO .txt on the end) and put this file into the asr folder, then lo and behold, the NA 720's suddenly had active icons for spoken address, etc in the Navigate To screens.

So, I presume european units still have VR without the support file and I don't know about NA maps for European users.

I just downloaded the new version and installed it without error messages.

Now TT Home says "This function is not yet supported for your TomTom device or operating system" when I chose to "Operate my Go" from TT Home.

Not terribly impressed by this update so far Sad

And I didn't get offered the maps v 8.15 - any idea about what I need to do to get them?

Okay..so this is what needs to happen

1) Dock TTx40 on Home. It should update the software to 8.204.
2) After software updated..Remove TTx40 from dock...Wait for TTx40 to start-up again. Re-dock and say yes to "Connect to Computer"
3) Now go to the Tools menu in Home and choose Latest Map Guarantee.

Does it work now?
