There is a Gatso located on a road near my home. I have only lived in this area for one year. When we moved here, the Gatso had an orange canvas bag on it with the wording "Not In Use". The bag has never been removed while I have lived here.
Last week, some scum decided to set it on fire. Well done dummy. You may think that you are a bit like Robin Hood, protecting the innocent motorist from the evil cameras, well you are wrong and you are stupid.
The local council are not going to send a man over with a tin of yellow paint to make good, no, they are going to renew this Gatso. That is going to cost a lot of money. Who is going to pay for it? What you don't reaslise is that the old Gatso with a roll of film in, was not worth the bother and cost of keeping switched on, hence the bag. Now, it is going to be replaced by a better, more expensive digital version, which costs next to nothing to leave switched on and does not need to have the roll of film changed.
What is the best way to recover the cost of this replacement?
Switch it on and start pulling in some fines is the best way.
If you are responsible for burning cameras, I make no apologies for naming you as scum, which is what you are. If you are not responsible, then I hope I have not offended you. _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

Most likely why they did it in the first place. |

Tom, you make think these people are scum but others may regard them as freedom fighters? There was a Gatso near me on the Elton by-pass near Peterborough and there are no junctions on that road, no nasty bends, no houses, schools etc so it wasn't needed to improve road safety but they placed it just past the bridge taking the Bullock Road across the by-pass. It was burned out several times, spray-painted several times and once pulled right out of the ground. I actually witnessed an accident near the camera when a car driver saw it too late, panic braked and the car behind crashed into the back. Nobody was hurt but that particular camera really did cause the accident. Ok, the driver should have seen it and the car behind was too close but it really happened. It is an improvement to the road now it's gone and that is the result of people power.
So - scum or freedom fighters? |

Hello Snudge, I stand by my earlier comments, the word is scum. If a camera is wrongly or misapproprately placed, there are legal ways of getting rid of it.
Lobby your MP, complain at your local Police station, ask ROSPA to intervene etc, etc, but please do not just set them on fire for the rest of us to pick up the bill. _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

eish cameras are there for a reason , as far as I'm concerned I've learnt my lesson and keep to the speed limit now days .......Cameras are good things and as far as I'm concerned there should be more of them out there ,people speed way to much in this country especially though towns and villages which annoys me so much as I catch them up again once though the village as there top speed is 40mph regardless _________________ TomTom 5001 |

It has not been included in the database yet, it was only submitted this morning, with a link to this thread, so don't include it in the next update please. _________________ TT Go 720 (T)
