Hi
well its a Fair cop, You are quite right it does seem that a 250 wont play the descriptions. That a bit of a same but not the end of the world. I find the bongs can get on the nerves especially when on road I know so after the 50th time of being told a gatso is ahead I expect the Satnav would get thrown out the window
I guess I will have to wait till I upgrade
ho hum

If you get an old copy of POILoader 2.4.0 Beta from here you can use wav files however it's not a supported method of getting voice alerts...

Check the file names. The mp3 must match the names of the file you want them to alert for.
ie.
Gatso.csv (Or Gatso.ov2)
Gatso.mp3 |

Hi PaulB2005
Does this mean that the nuvi 250 can play wav files?
I have the means in theory (have not tried it yet) to covert mp3 to wav however its a lot of work every Wednesday just in case the file names have changed let alone any license issues

We won't be changing the file names for the speed camera database, they have been consistent for some years now! _________________ Darren Griffin |

If you need an easy way to convert from mp3 to wav have a look at Audacity which can be downloaded from This Web site - Mike |

Well yes i suppose. Reading back through some old posts it appears the wav method should work with the 2xx series. |

I don't know the Nuvi 250, but there are many models of TomTom that do not have an mp3 player and they can ALL use the voice alerts (in this case in .ogg format). |
Oooh Andy, school boy error! |
Eh? What did I get wrong? Are there any TomToms that can't use ogg files?
Further posts elsewhere now seem to confirm that on the Nuvi range you *do* need the mp3 player functionality to use mp3 alerts, but that's not what I was saying above.... |

I think that point was that only recent Garmin models introduced .mp3 support for alerts and the presence of the .mp3 player would indicate if your model was one of these. The .mp3 alert support arrived together with the .mp3 player functionality. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I have a Tom Tom 700 loaded at the moment with pocket gps worlds excellent speed camera data base which gives alerts for each individual camera type in every speed limit and also displays the speed limit on the screen as well as a Tom Tom audible warning, could anyone advise which is the best & most comprehensive voice warning to install which will warn me of every individual camera type in every speed limit I'm given to understand that some of the voice warnings done by some of radio presenters miss out certain mobile camera sites |

I use the Liz W voice file. They don't have pMobile alerts included but there are supplementary files available to resolve that if you use the pMobile files.
If you use both you will have alerts for every type of camera we offer. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I use "Simon TTS".
It is the most recently-made one, so has all the pMobiles and variables etc.
It is also a lot less "wordy" which I prefer. |

Hi It just gets worse, Even my computer wont reconise the mp3 files!
I have downloaded Audacity and this just says it is an unformated file. I must just be unlucky.
