First of all hello

I have been looking at memory map A-Z street maps for a way of mapping out wifi hot spots in my local area and i know that this is not what the software is intended for but from reading about this program i feel that it would be ideal :D
I would be looking to run the map on my ipaq with a node scanner running in the background and as the scanner found a hot spot i want to be able to mark the postition on the map for later edits on my pc.

so now for the questions

can i do this with memory map A-Z?
is there another pda app out there that i could do this with?
Would the A-Z vers work well with a portable bluetooth gps device and is there any way of exporting the mm maps out to another format (jpeg, gif etc) as i may want a way of publishing the data recorded to non mm users.

Thanks for any advice given

P3

You can mark a location on an A-Z map in the same way as on a topographical map and then the marked locations can be exported and made available to other users. I usually use the Maptech export format with Memory-Map and convert to other formats using my POIConverter program (look in Downloads | POI Icons and Converters | PC).

How does your hotspot scanner show a node position to you? I have never seen one so I am interested to find out.

the scanner i am using at the moment has a rather good gui which gives off information relating to signal strength, wep on/off, internet access availabilty and ip info and more! all you need to do is listen for an audio alert as you are out and about.

Problem being i am finding more than i thought i would and i am quicky loosing track of where they are and which one's are open or closed.

Have a look at the software here

Thank you for your help on this one and it looks more likely that i'll be buying mm especially since i am going into town today!

I see that Chris Devereaux has compiled a list of Wireless Hotspots, 1889 of them around the country. These are available for download on this website. Look under GPS Central | Points Of Interest.

You can use my POIConverter program to create a Maptech MXF file from the TomTom Navigator OV2 file.

Thanks for the link to the software. I will have a look at it Thumbs Up
