I have been slightly concerned recently at comments I have read about MapShare, especially TomTom Verified ones which turn out to be rubbish.
I was hoping to post this query as a poll, but do not have permission maybe some kind mod could put it on for me?
How do you use MapShare?
a) I upload and download frequently and trust it 100%
b) I upload, because I want to help, but I do not trust it enough to download.
c) I only download, because I can't be bothered doing corrections.
d) I would not touch it with a bargepole. _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

I would like to add a fifth alternative:
e) I upload because I want to help improving the quality of future map releases. I download map correction from MapShare, but only use my own corrections and sometimes those verified by TomTom. |

I hope what I have done is what you wanted, but being a Moderator perhaps I shouldn't have done it reading the text in your last post? - Mike |

Trust it 100% is a bit over the top but I do download and use all available corrections and have never had a problem. _________________ Paul |

I voted for the first option, but would not trust everything available, so I only download the 'verified' and 'submitted by many' categories.
I think 100% is a bit strong. _________________ Ric - TomTom 520 DEAD - Passed to the great traffic jam in the sky. Now using Maps & Waze on Samsung Galaxy S4 + CamerAlert of course! |

Since this first started, I have been using it with every setting apart from "Reported by some".
My idea was that if TomTom have verified it, or lots of people have reported it, it must be OK.
The reason that I asked for this poll is to try to make an informed decision as to whether I should use it at all, or if I do use it, should I only use TT verified reports, or am I safer using only the updates reported by many? Decisions descisions.
I agree that trusting it 100% is a bit over the top, but surely someone does?? _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

As I wrote before none of the options in the poll corresponds to my usage. I submit map corrections to make TT/Tele Atlas aware of new road changes. I hope this will speed up the update process but who knows? |

One thing that I would ask of the "I would not touch it with a bargepole" people, is to upload at least, because TomTom are also gathering information for IQ Routing.
So even if you are only going down to the supermarket, please set it as a route anyway which provides more data for TomTom to work with. _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

Are you sure there's a connection between the gathering of statistic data for IQ Routing and uploading of MapShare corrections? I believe your travel data is submitted anonymously each time you connect your device to TT Home, regardless of your MapShare settings. |
