Was it possible you had both the old AND new maps installed to the device? - if this is the case you would need to go to Change Preferences/ Manage Maps/ Switch Map and select the newer map from the presented list.
To find out what map a device is using you tap the sat strength meter followed by the version box, a screen will appear listing the full version number of both the application and the active map - Mike
Fair point. However, it seemed to have upgraded the old map rather than replace - and when I did what you say, it showed only one Western Europe map that was selected.
This number has changed to the latest version 8.10 after I performed the online purchase and update.
It must be something to do with having the software at v8 but assuming people will have upgraded to other maps or have newer versions of the maps before upgrading. Certainly, I was one of the first purchasers of a 720 when they came out so I think most had 7.10 maps, whereas I was on 7.05. This seems to be the only anomaly...
I'll see what the restore comes back with, then try and update the map first, then update the firmware to v8. And see what happens...

I don't think the original map folder has any bearing on this, my 720 was also supplied with 705 maps when new.
f you can take the unit back to 7,221 then let Home progressively update the device, the 7,481 release is needed as part of the update to version 8 as it contains certain vital files.
Once you have had 7,481 on the unit Home should then update the device to the latest 8,010 - at this point re-install your new map and try it again - Mike

Will do - thanks.
I seem to recall there was a site somewhere that had the old and all previous versions of TT software. Can you remind me where it was - otherwise I'll do a search and revert back to this and then update. Sort of what I was doing all along but maybe, if I do it in one go, it will work.

Cheers Mike.
Ok, I'm now showing App 7.221 (8572/071121)
Map Western Europe v7.05.1480
I shall now just connect to Home and let it upgrade as required.
It will tell me that I have a new map (v8.10) available for download almost immediately. Should I do this after the App update (thus ignoring it) or just let Home take control?

Good old Home - it is telling me to install the map now (and thus to download it again - great), as well as upgrade directly to 7.481.
I'm going to follow Home for the moment and let it do everything in its order. Tne, if ALG does not work, will do it another order until the blinkin' things does.
There is no reason why it should not work I know - just that it did not...

Thanks Froggy - but did not work with me. No matter what I did, it kept telling me I did not have the correct maps, including hard and soft resetting...

Hi mightyyid
On your TT go to Change Preferences, on page 3 there is the icon Show Lane Images - select it and then "Done".
It should then be o.k.
Thanks - that is what I was doing but hitting ALG just came up with the grey screen advising the maps I have are not compatible with ALG, even though it was definately the new ones. Hence my requirement to start from scratch again as something was configuring it incorrectly...

Ok - it all now works.
Followed Home's instructions for upgrading, and after downloading the latest maps, it then failed to find them on the device, requesting I choose Canary Islands. Then went back into Home, updated to the latest v8.010 and once it restarted, ALG was active and working fine.
Took a while and a few more gig download but now sorted. Thanks to all...

After half a dozen attempts at downloading the update, all day Friday, I left it connected to the internet and went to bed. In the morning it was already installed, leaving me nothing to do apart from move my MapSettings.cfg file.
We decided that it was a nice sunny day, so a trip out was in order.
IQ routing worked properly, ALG worked properly, however we were wandering about in a strange town and needed to find somewhere to eat, so I picked on a POI to navigate to. I wanted to choose the option for "Walking", but there are no options available any more, IQ Routing now appears to be the default setting. Is there any way to get these options back, or is this now how Map 810 works? _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

Tom, Go to Change Preferences/ Planning Preferences and from the list select "Ask me every time I plan" this way you will be presented with the list of options, I think the new software’s default is to automatically plan fastest route so you don't get to see the options unless you change the preferences - Mike
