I'm assuming when I select "Avoid Motirways" my TTG Classic will still take me on Route National when driving through France.

Please confirm

Thanks

Dave

Remember that you also have the option to avoid toll roads.

I'm not sure exactly how TomTom handle the autoroutes etc in France, but you have a couple of preferences to try.

Good thinking - I'll use that option.

Thanks

Having looked at Wikipedia, it seems that these roads are still classified as motorway, although they are generally toll free.

This might well be one of those cases where you need to try it and see which setting best fits your preferences.

What happens if you run a demo route?

(note that I am talking about v8.10 sw, but I suspect that this is not new.) If you run with default settings, and then respond Yes to "avoid toll roads", you are given the time for the calculated route AND also the time for the quicker route with tolls (called the original route), allowing you to amke a choice.

When I drive through Northern France I avoid the A16 and use the N1 & D940 by avoiding toll routes either from in the settings or asking me each time.

Only problem is if I plan a journey from home to France whilst set to avoid toll routes, it prevents me using the Dartford crossing and takes me around the M25 from the A1 to the M20 via Heathrow.

Maybe the trick here is to do it in two steps - one for the French leg and one for the English leg and change the preferences when you reach the tunnel/ferry.

That way, you can use toll roads (Dartford crossing/M6 toll) here and avoid toll roads in France.

Hi dsmail
I go to France fairly often and Use my Tomtom every time. I know the answer to your question but will let you find out the answer for yourself. Plan your route, go to View Route, Browse map of route and you will see exactly what awaits you.
If you are not happy with the result then you can plan your own Itinerary (I do) and travel on whatever roads you wish.
