My question really applies to all map versions. I live in UK and occasionally travel in France (this year Spain as well). Is it better to buy country specific maps (becaue they are more detailed???) or go for the Western and Central Europe map as it covers all the countries (but is it as detailed?). If the W&CE map is less detailed then I assume map sharing is not an option as it will be continually updated as it is not as detailed. I'm a little confused. Thanks for any help.

I drive 99.98% in the UK however I venture into France & Belgium probably 5-6 times a year to do shopping in Calais & Adinkerke, I don't really need all of the other countries, however you never know if you will need them later on, so I'll be getting the v8 W&CE map when they eventually release it.

It's always better to have more mapping than you need, rather than get lost by not having the right mapping available.

I would go for the Europe map rather than individual countries. When people say that the Europe map has less detail I don't think that they are saying that it has less roads on it. It is just that the roads may look a bit less curvy, more like a series of straight lines with angles rather than curves. This is due to the extended compression of the map data.
As the Europe map will be more popular than individual country maps you should get more mapshare updates for it rather than less.
