Hello,

Can somenone give me a hint on how to import custom POIs into MapSource? I have successfully managed to get them across to the GPS via Garmin POI loader, but can't get them into MapSource. I select MapSurce as save option in POI Loader, specify a name of a POI file (whatever file that is...) and finally select the folder of the POI files on my harddrive. POI loader tells me that the the POI files have been installed in MapSource, but when I start MapSource I am unable to find them. Do I have to do some manual step from inside MapSource to view them?

Regards,

Ulf

Have you tried File, Open then select the file in MapSource?

Well after converting the POI file (Garmin csv) to gpx format I was able to open and display the POIs in MapSource. However that automatically creates a new database file (gdb file) instead of appending to an existing one. The thing is that I have a number of POI categories that I have created in TomTom (ov2 files) that I would now like to view as separate categories but in a common workspace in MapSource.

It's probably only me who haven't understood the Garmin way of working with POIs/waipoints. I'm just curious what the POI Loader application does when I commands it to transfer POIs to MapSource.

Copy them from the 'new' gdb file and paste them into the 'existing' one!

I do that with the speed camera database, I have one Master Mapsource copy with everything on. [The pMobile is always a separate file that I want added to the main database]

Yes, I just realized this myself after playing around with MapSource for a while, but thanks anyway! Smile

A follow-up question: How do I select which POI categories I want to be visible on the map in MapSource? There must be a way to select this, right?

Mapsource on PC

Waypoints - Show Waypoints - 'All Categories'/'No Categories'/ or create up to 16 Categories.

To create 16 categories:-
Edit - Preferences - Waypoint Categories.

Ah, excellent! I was assuming that the drop-down list in the Waipoint tab was only used for filtering the textual list but it also filters which POIs are displayed on the map!

Thanks again! These forums are invaluable!

PS: I managed to import my own custom POI bitmaps, so now I'm starting to feel at home in the new enviroment. The topo maps are really great! Only too bad that it's not possible to make map printouts with full resolution!
