|
|
I have read a number of the excellent threads regarding the various bean bag mounts. Most however still rely on the suction mount gripping onto a disc in the centre of the bean bag. The lack of suction grip is a key problem, particularly when it fails when you are doing 70mph on the motorway. I don't see that these mounts will resolve this.
Does the Garmin Friction mount grip and lock the suction mount that comes with the i3 or do I need another attachment?
Have I got it wrong with the above or can any of these mounts grip the satnav so that it will never fall off again? |

Don't know enough about the i3 but I bought my wife the GARMIN 'beanbag' mount. This mechanically locks the mounting arm to the bag - it's rock solid.
If your i3 has a nuvi style mount (i.e. it's a ball and socket arrangement) then this may well work.
In operation it really is superb - it just doesn't slide around. _________________ Phil |

Thanks for the reply. It does have ball and socket fixing, ball is 17mm diameter, base with sucker is 56mm. Is this the same?
I have the chance to buy the Garmin bean bag on its own. Will my mount work in this or do I need another arm to fit this? Do you know where these can be bought? |

I think I have discovered an answer to my own last question. The mount I am seeing looks to be an early attempt by Garmin that required you to buy a separate fixing arm. Apparently that was nigh on impossible to do. The newer version has the fixing arm as part of the mount, it comes as one unit.
Could anyone please confirm that the ball for this version is still 17mm (it is on Amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nuvi-Series-StreetPilot-c5XX/dp/B000LRMS66
and is unhelpfully called Nuvi Series, StreetPilot c5XX Series. I presume this is the version that Phil has although he may confirm otherwise |

Yep - that's the one that we have. I'll try to measure the ball diameter - but perhaps a call to Garmin would be the best bet - they should be able to confirm or deny it's suitability with the i3. It's also a few pounds cheaper than when I bought it (also from Amazon). _________________ Phil |
