Hi, am a newbie to Garmin and after a recent trip have stacked up a bunch of questions?

I am very surprised that one of the main Ferry ports in the UK doesn't seem to appear on my Garmin 760?

They list the Channel Tunnel crossing, they list Folkstone Ferry but not the Dover Ferry? This seems very odd to me. Do I have to type something special? (I tried ferry, I tried searching the points of interest etc).

I added it to my favorites for future reference (and I guess the road signs are pretty good for the ferry).

Even more strange as the Folkestone ferry doesn't exist anymore!

Folkestone is now only used for fishing and a few sailing boats, delivery of ballast and use of the Coastguard boat, even the Russian submarine which was on display has been moved elsewhere.

It's not missing!

Try this (I'm using 660 with 2008NT)

WhereTo: Address
Select England if prompted (really annoying 'bug')
Spell City: DOVER (Done)
Select Dover, Kent
Enter House Number: (just press Done)
Enter Street : DOVER then press done.
Select which ferry you want from the three presented.

Not simple - not even really intuitive - but it gets you to the right place.

It's really bizarre - the ferry port is listed as "Category: Transportation", "Subcategory: Ground Transportation". The full name of Dover port on the City Navigator Europe v9 Maps is:

"Dover
Dock Exit Road
Dover, KENT Ct16 1"

The ferry port at Calais is also listed as Ground Transportation too even though the POI is named Calais/Gare Maritime. Laughing

I can't see the Folkstone ferry but there is a POI for "Folkestone Harbour".

Hmmm - you're right that does work but I would never have figured that out - on my 760 if I follow your steps (I don't get prompted for country there is a button to change it if I want) at the last steps it shows 3 "streets" - Dover Road, Dover-Boulogne, Dover-Calais - those don't really jump out as being the actual ferry port - but at least I can use that next time.

With that information, now when I look at the POI's near Dover, and select ground transportation I can see "Dover" - I guess that means Ferry - but it would be more obvious if it was labeled Dover - Ferry.

I guess you get used to these little nuances.

Thanks for all of the help guys - I can feel a bit more confident planning routes now.

What I suspect (and i haven't tried this) is if you plan a route from UK to France it will pick the 'correct' ferry terminal as part of the routing.

Actually it routes you through the channel tunnel (a reasonable route suggestion I would say) but if you have booked on the ferry....
