You mean between the "3rd Edition" and the new "22" (as TomTom are describing them) models with the easyport mount?
{v3 was the "New/Second edition" as was v4}

If so, not a great deal.

Neither have any frills, no bluetooth for hands free calls OR for the Plus" data services, no SD card slot. The "22" model has the new mount, and a slightly bigger, louder speaker. It is still supplied with v7 software, but with a couple of the v8 features included like the additional MapShare correction features.

TomTom themselves have a comparison chart http://www.tomtom.com/productadvisor/ but it's not that great.

Thanks.

I don't think I need any of the frills because I'll only be using it on odd occasions when I am on a longer drive.

That said, I intend to take it to Florida in November so will need to put on the additional maps. Will it take the florida map without the SD Slot?

Should I be looking at a different version, maybe the One XL ?

Any recommendations?

Thanks again.

The US SE Regional map is 232,6MB and retails currently at £24:95 this will fit in the internal memory of either a regional or European One Third Edition or one of the newer v4 units.
Alternately you could consider the full US & Canada map which is 847,6MB which will only fit on to one of the European devices (the regional units don't have sufficient memory to house it) - Mike

Thanks Guys,

Mike would I be better off with a One XL over the One ?

Out of the box, apart from the SD Slot & bigger screen, does it offer anything else?

Thanks

My preference would be to go for a device with a card slot as this offers more flexibility. However in this case you will be looking at the Old One XL with the SD slot which has far older maps installed, and I am not too sure you get a latest map guarantee with these devices.

This is not an easy one to choose, newer maps and no SD slot vs older maps and SD slot, I would look long and hard at the prices though and also consider the Go-520 if you can find one as this offers the best fit to your requirements, SD slot and latest maps - Mike

You can get the latest maps by paying for them, but what was being referred to is a scheme where if any more recent maps come out in the month following your purchase you can update free of charge. This would not be available if you bought one of the older One XLs.

TMC receiver is a receiver which can get updates of traffic congestion on your route and automatically plan a detour to avoid it

Thanks for all the advice guys.

Another quick question.

Map release version aside, do all TomTom's, irrelevant of model, ship with the latest version of navigator?

No. Laughing

Even some of the latest models are still shipping with the version of software that was current when they were first produced.

However, SOFTWARE updates are always free, so you can easily get updated to the latest available for your machine.

There is a slight oddity at the moment where we are in the middle of a MAJOR software shift from v7 to v8, so v8 hasn't yet been released for every model. But in all probability it will be eventually.

Thanks

Is there an easy way to determine what version is shipped with the product?

When buying from a shop you could ask to open it turn on and tap signal bar then you get software version! but as your buying from the net it's not that easy to check, but most will still ship with either v7.221 or v7.480/1 but as said earlier you will be offered latest software via home when you first connect!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure you do a windows backup before you connect to home check thread on here for info!

My advice is look for a 520 or 720 they will fill your needs well! and there are some bargins about!

enjoy.
