Like the compass issue, this subject is beginning to suffer from having been made a mountain out of a molehill and it's perhaps being taken completely out of proportion.

Whether people have decided to update or not to update, I don't think it's worth making a big deal of it - as long as it's been done 'legitimately' via HOME.

As has been mentioned from the beginning, anybody trying to purchase, download and install v8 maps onto an x20 was taking a gamble and, in most cases, that may have paid off.

Obviously, it was also a gamble that TT aren't going to release updated v8 maps for the x20 range at the end of the sale, but some might think the gamble of saving up to 30% has paid off.

But that is possibly exactly what IS happening.

Just connected mine to Home and it updated the quickfix and mapshare with no problems.
If TT did decide to stop my v8 maps from working on my 920T after I legitimately purchased them from their "shop" with some sort of firmware update or what ever that, would be the very day I start using free downloadable copies. I know of 3 sites that have working V8.05 eastern europe. I decided not to use those and spend nearly £60 on legit software from TT, it will be the last £60 they get from me !!! Personally I think I and others that have downloaded V8 maps will have a problem in the future....we will have to see.

Marshall, my setting is that way .... when I connect to Home, I automatically get logged into my Account on the site. I forget what setting in Home does that but Home sends my email address to TomTom automatically.

I thought this process was 'normal'. Wink

Hi marshall
When ever I place my 720 in the cradle and connect to my computer it connects to Home on its own accord and searches for updates. It does this whether I want it to or not.Yo be honest I had not even noticed that it had a log in option.

Check your preference settings in Home. Bet you have 'automatically log into TomTom' (or whatever it says) checked off.

HI
I would like to clarify what has happened

Normaly i connect to home and put my TT in the holder the computer logs me in and my e mail address appears in the top righthand corner of the screen, downloads start and all is well .

the last 2 or 3 times i have connected as usual the login message (top right of screen stays there and after a while map updates appear for download ( by now my login email address should be in the top right corner but it still reads "login")

i press update and the map updates are downloaded and the login prompt is still there in the corner
i have never seen it like that until today, but why?

Wazza you do get worked up about this!!but we are all adults on the forum

John, I know you two have been having an onging "discussion" about this for some time, but I'm pretty sure Wazza's MAIN point was that TT would not support the "wrong" maps and may even stop them working.

That now seems to be the case, so our fears were justified....

I do not remember having an ongoing discussion with Wazza about this if so it did not cause much of an impression with me to remember it Surprised but I have posted on the subject before ???

Oh, ok. I'd put it down to server issues on TT's side (what else is new? Confused ). Anyway, as long as you get the updates ....

This is normal for certain updates, isn't it? I've found that anything you don't have to pay for can usually be downloaded and installed without being logged in.

I have HOME set so that it does not automatically start when the computer is booted, which helps me control when/what is updated and saves a wee bit of RAM and startup time.

I am afraid that I have a slightly different problem. When I connect my 720, Home opens and logs me in automatically.
When I click "Update my TomTom", nothing much happens, it just says "Loading", this will go on forever, unless I do something else. My way is to click "Use Latest Map Guarantee", I then get a message saying that LMG is not available to me. After this when I click "Update" it finds the GPS Quickfix. I then need to install this, before Clicking "Update" again to get the Mapshare changes.
It is a long winded faff about, but it works. Could I possibly have a setting wrong somewhere? I originally asked TomTom Helpdesk Joker about this and they recommended uninstalling Home and re - downloading it. Chocolate fireguard springs to mind.......
