Posted: Tue May 27, 2008 6:10 pm Post subject: Which Drive Smart Database to load? |
|
|
Hi all,
some of the loyal old DS users may remember me from the old DS forum?
Anyway, I'm using the trusty Drive Smart again and I am looking for advise from those with experience about the best database to load.
For the DS, should I use the www.drivesmartsupport.com database or should I subscribe and use the PGPSW database?
Any advise or assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hi Mr_T,
I remember you, welcome here to this forum, you require the DriveSmartLoader-1.4.16_private the details to use it are HERE, (option 2) and I would subscribe and use the PGPSW database.
The database here is the best you can get, it is updated daily and worth every £, additionally if you find a camera installed or removed that isn't marked you can get a free database for life.
You will find some of the regular 'old' users are here as eg. Nuttynurse.
Read some of the DS posts here and you will see the positive support that PGPSW gets with their database.
There is no point having a free database if it isn't up todate. _________________ TomTom Go 60

Thanks GJF,
"luckily" I noticed when the old DS forum was up for a while in March 2007, a post about 1.4.16-private loader and printed off the instructions and downloaded the files. So I think I am about ready to go.
Does the loader accept the raw PGPSW database directly? So I dont have to format it at all?
I am already VERY impressed with the PGPSW reporting tool and the ability to see if sites are already logged.
I might get lucky and gain life subscription here!

You need to remove the 'old' DS database before installing this one or you will end up with two running side-by-side, which could be very confusing.
For the first use of the private loader only, just before pressing the WRITE button press the ERASE button, this will remove the 'old' DS database.
See your PM file. _________________ TomTom Go 60

When I said "ready to go", I meant "ready to subscribe and load the files". Good to see that the moderators are "quick" on this forum. Thats one of the things us DS users like to see. _________________ Drive-Smart-01, DS Pulse Master

OK, I have taken the plunge and subscribed.
I down loaded the CSV files and there are 2 of them, 'sc' & 'masters and pmobile'.
I guessed that the SC file is the safety Cameras, so that is the file I have loaded, but what is the other and why is it so big? _________________ Drive-Smart-01, DS Pulse Master

the 2 files are:
SC:- main database (gatso, truvelo, specs, confirmed mobile, redlight)
masters & pending mobile:- main database (as above) PLUS the unconfirmed mobile sites that have been submitted but are not necessarily accurate or proper locations.
the DS requires the files to be in strict order of longitude so it is a pain to hash files together - especially as their version of 'csv' (COMMA separated values) is actually a semi-colon separated value list with a comma for decimal points...

unfortunately we cannot provide these due to issues with the way we create the files and the ridiculously strict order that the drivesmart files need to be in.

Oh dear !!!
This post
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=17702
states:
Continental: Locations on the continent, i.e. mainland Europe.
Could you provide a simple CSV file with lat/long/speed/camera-type/heading? I am happy to massage it myself into a readable Drivesmart format and I'll give you a macro to do it automatically.
My trip will only be about 1600km, but I'm sure to see a few POIs to report back with.
Many thanks in advance. _________________ Drive-Smart-01, DS Pulse Master

you could use the iGO download as this has all the heading data
drive smart camera types:
MOBILE = 9
REDLIGHT = 10
TRUVELO = 12
SPECS END= 13
SPECS START = 11
GATSO / MONITRON / REDSPEED / TEMP = 1
igo camera types:
REDSPEED = 2
REDLIGHT = 3
SPECS = 4
MOBILE = 5
GATSO / MONITRON / TRUVELO / TEMP = 1
hope that helps

remember the separator is a ';' as opposed to a ',' and DS uses a ',' instead of a decimal point... |

Oh yes, very important, infact it is compulsory.
BTW, if you use points in the lat long, the file will load into the unit, but the DS never recognisis any of the locations when in the car. _________________ Drive-Smart-01, DS Pulse Master
