Yes you can charge the unit from a compter using the usb cable supplied.
I have my unit connected to the car charger whenever I am in the vehicle, so it rarely goes flat, but every now and then I do let it run down and give it a full recharge. A legacy I have continued with all rechargeable batteries even though its not needed with NiMH batteries.

Yes, you can charge it via the USB lead, but bear in mind that it is only a low charge rate.
You can get Mains Chargers, but they must have a minimum of 2A capacity.

If it is in use everyday in the car, there would be little need for a home charger.
The car adapter should be able to charge a flat battery in about 2 hours. And that's with the Device working.

TomTom Devices use either a Lithium-ion or Lithium-polymer Battery.
