SD card questions , using a Nuvi 750

Hello everyone,
I am new to the GPS world, I puchased a Garmin Nuvi 750, I have not used my Sd card which is a Sandisk Ultra 2 2GB Card. My question is
Do I have to download whats on the SD card to the 750, using up
the 750's memory or can I use the SD card like another storage device and pull what I want from it without using any 750 memory?

I don't own a 750, but with my 350, if you insert a SD with POI's loaded on it , the Nuvi asks if you want to transfer the POI's to it's internal memory. If you select NO, you can still access the POI's from the Nuvi.
Also if you install a SD with additional mapping (which I do when I visit the USA) the Nuvi seems to detect that these are maps and has not asked if I want them transfered.
