Tomtom Home updated itself to latest version 2.3.1.92 a few weeks ago from its previous version. Since then I have great trouble getting my tt one version 2 regional to update. The Home update screen hangs up saying loading and the green bar is moving but nothing is happening. I have to shut down tt and/or home and start again. Eventually after a number of tries it will find updates and install them but it is really frustrating and time consuming. Tomtom support suggested turning off firewall/anti virus but it was still the same. Their next solution was to remove Home and download Home v1.5 This works but it is a really old version. Any one having similar problems or perhaps have the previous version I can install?

There is a member of a US TomTom forum who swears that, when Home starts the updating process, minimizing the screen will to the taskbar causes the updates to work much faster than by keeping the updating window active.

Worth a shot, maybe?

I find that works for me also. I was having to wait forever just to get the list of updates available. So I tried the minimize to taskbar method. It now takes about 15 to 30 seconds. I just watch the screen on my GO920. When the red X goes away it's done.

Thanks for replies Very Happy . When I read the solution I was dubious but yes it does work. I tried it twice to be sure.

Before I read your solution I got a reply from Tomtom saying -
'I am glad to hear that the problem has now been resolved. The reason why we asked you to use the old version of tomtom home 1.5 is because you had an old version of software application in your device and home 2.3 could not offer you an upgrade. Since now your device has been updated, you can upgrade your home version to 2.3 and there will not be any problems on upgrading your device in the future.'

The only thing that Home 1.5 updated was my GPS fix, however in case something had been done in the background I followed their advice and needless to say I still had the same problem. As far as I could see all the information on the tt one 'show version' page had not changed.

I will contact support and let them know the real solution - watch this space.

Thanks again!!!!!!!

I have noticed this same behaviour of slowness since upgrading to Home 2.3, strangely enough minimizing the Home window to the taskbar does seem to speed it up!

I wander if this behaviour is particular to Windows XP as on my Window Vista machine it appears to work at a decent update speed.

Anyone else noticed that while it is searching for updates it takes up a MASSIVE amount of the PC's CPU load?

Any other program running is grinding to a halt, and if I look in Task Manager, "HOMERunner.exe" is taking about 98% CPU capacity.

Somebody in a US forum, observing what you did regarding homerunner.exe reported he used task manager and reduced the priority of the homerunner.exe process; the consequence of which was the updating proceeded much faster.

A rather drastic approach, if you ask me...... Shocked

Just out of interest, Homerunner.exe is using 48% CPU whilst loading, dropping to 3% when loaded, 40% whilst downloading updates, 13% whilst installing updates dropping to 0% on completion.

System
Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

Computer
AMD Athlon (tm) 64 x 2 Dual
Core Processor 6800+
5.5 GHz 8.00 GB of RAM

Broadband is SDSL with BT 20 megabits up and down.

I can but dream. Evil or Very Mad

I can force it nearer to that with setting the Priority to Low.
