Just got TomTom 2,
installed it and after activating it failed to recognise that I had installed any maps. So after a hard reset I find out that I cant even reinstall this piece of **** software for 7 days as the device code is different.
Any ideas ?
Why would the device code change ?
Cheers,
Steve |

You will only get that error IF yours was the second install and you have tried to install it onto another Pocket PC (or via a different PC). |

Its the same pocket PC and PC
Only difference was a hard reset of the pocket pc.
So looks like I'm stuck for a week, and if it ever goes wrong again 6 months. Who comes up with this BS ? |

I am slightly concerned for exactly the opposite reason. My TomTom 2 software hasnt asked for an activation full stop. I emailed TomTom to ask them about it and their response was simply 'If it doesnt request it, it doesnt need it'. Go figure. But when I send for an update to version 3 in a few weeks (or whenever its available) you can bet your ass they will question why I didnt activate it... or will they
Confused.

This post raises another question, Hp have just released a ROM upgrade for the IPAQ 2210 which requires a hard reset and re-install of all aplications (you can't use a backup to restore), will I have a problem re-installing TomTom and activating if I upgrade the ROM on my iPAQ 2210?
thanks |

Chris, all you will have to supply is your activation code on the side of the box/CD. I suspect there will be a flag on the TomTom server that then flags this ID as an upgrade and resets the activations or they just give you a new key (more likely).
SHC, In theory you should be okay as the PPC Serial number (unique) is embedded into the ROM and in theory not erasable and providing you re-install to the same device you won't use up another activation. However saying that, I know a handfull of people have upgraded a ROM in the past and then lost the unique serial number requiring the iPAQ to be sent back to HP. |

I installed the new firmware on my 2210 yesterday. I had no problem at all when I reinstalled Tomtom after the hardsreset performed by the update. |

you won't have any issues activating ttn2 I upgraded my 2210 to 1.01 then 1.10 and each time the activation was very simple and without problems. |

Did you find a UK specific ROM image or use SP27073.exe from the hp.com website?

There is no specific UK ROM image, go with the US one on the HP site _________________ Darren Griffin |
