Hi! I'm a complete novice - so please go easy!!! I bought a Vista Hcx and on a couple of (off road) test routes have come across the same problem. When I reach and pass a waypoint, the unit keeps directing me back to it instead of progressing to the next waypoint! If I 'Stop navigation' and start it again it happily picks up where I am and directs me to the next waypoint where the same procedure occurs. I know I'm missing something simple but vital. (does proximity alarms affect this?). Thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction and I don't mind you laughing at me being thick!!!

Hi,
Your problem is unusual. Normally the complaint is just the opposite: the GPS jumps to the another waypoint before reaching the "current" one. Just to be quite clear, you have assembled a number of waypoints into a route and then started the route and this problem occurs?

Hi! Thanks for coming back Harry. Yes - I created a route from waypoints in GPSU and transferred it to the Garmin. Strange thing is when I first tried the unit out (using Mapsource) it worked perfectly. The only difference I know of is that the waypoints in that case had proximity alerts set up. (I also created a route in mapsource and used it in the Mournes with exactly the same problem as described previously). I just assumed I was doling something really stupid. On road routing works perfectly.

That's me confused.
I had an Etrex and now use a Geko 201. Both have the same problem that on a circular walk you are taken directly to the finish point with all the intermediate points ignored. Likewise if you take a line to a point which is a right angles to the main route the GPS will direct you back to the route missing out the off-track points. Forums a littered with such complaints.
I just wonder if you have plotted both the outwards and return journey using the same waypoints and that the GPS has actually jumped to the next point in the return leg? This would tie in with the well-established problem.
My offering reads so badly that I almost deleted it. It certainly left me confused. But I decided that action would be too cowardly and so let it run (stagger?)
Can anyone else offer any explanation to Seagoon's problem?
