I have a strange problem...:
I used Poiloader to remove all custom PoIs from my Nüvi 760.
the file poi.gpi on the device is still there, but at size 0 bytes.
But when I look under "extras", all my custom PoIs are still there !
Any idea where the PoIs are stored now, and how I can delete them properly?
(I removed the SD card already, that's not where they are)

Usually in POI.GPI. Have you tried the remove all exisiting POIs option in POILoader?
Also do you have any other GPI files? There is a trick where you can keep more than one set of POIs on a Nuvi by renaming the POI.GPI file to another name. |

yes that is what I did first of all.

I didn't copy them by hand. There are only some "CyclopsSample" files but I don't think they are in there.
When I loaded the custom PoI file I did get a question like "do you want to install these so they are available without a map", but i don't know what was meant with this....
There is also a file "current.gpx", when I delete this it comes right back again. What does it contain?

This is the Garmin Speed Camera database.

Not sure. I suspect it's your current location, but it's a GPX file. The POIs are normally in GPI files.
Are there definately no other GPI files anywhere on the Nuvi? |

This is (or was) the list of your favourites I believe.
Check if there are any .GPI files on your nuvi. Take a copy of them onto your PC - just in case - then delete them. In fact take a full backup of your nuvi before doing anything else - randomly deleting files can cause the unit to stop working.
You do mean your own POI files (like the PGPSWORLD speed cameras) and NOT the in-built POIs supplied with the maps - which you cannot get rid of as far as I know.
Your other message - although I have never seen it - may be triggered if you are entering POIs in areas for which the unit has no base map

yes, i'm doing this right now... 
But I didn't find any other .gpi files - it's very strange !
Is there a way to put the Nüvi back in factory condition?
I did already do a "reset to factory settings", but that didn't remove my favorites or PoIs...

I've not tried it yet - I just received this info regarding a small problem with the 660. I want to do a full backup first as my favourites and POIs will disappear. It shouldn't mess your system up - just set all the options back to how it came. I believe others have done this before. make sure you do a backup first.

When you have a new poi file on an SD card it asks if you want to copy them onto the unit (though there is no reference to a map). If you say YES then you have the same custom POI's on the card and on the unit. Take out the card and they are still on the unit and so will be in Custom POI's. I ALWAYS keep poi's on the card and when asked the question say no after I have ticked "Don't ask me again".
Take the card out and run POI loader to remove all poi's from th eGarmin, making sure that it is the Garmin that has been identified.
I think that should solve your problem of th eold POI's reappearing. I have not used the cyclops POI's. You may need to untick these in Proximity points- Alerts as I don't know if those are treated as Custom POI's. |

Ah, that's what it is !
The Dutch word "kaart" can mean both "map" and "card", so I must have picked the wrong meaning....
Thanx for the hint. I had already tried this myself, but it may help others.
At this stage the only thing that will (hopefully) fix my problem is a complete system reset as suggested by philpugh above. Shame on Garmin!
