Has anyone with this problem actually contacted TomTom, you never know they may know something. |

Oh rest assured... given this happening again now, it's the first order of the day for tomorrow, and I will be calling on the phone, not mailing them! |

Removing QuickGPSfix seems to have cured the problem for me
I did have another strange occurrence today however.
My TT910 got stuck in a weird cycle.
It locked onto 6~7 satellites for a split second, then lost them for a split second and continued to cycle like this continually.
I was in Basingstoke when this happened, but my TomTom displayed me as being in Warwick
A few prods of the reset button cured the problem.
Strange
Is this anything to worry about?
Could it be related to the QuickGPSfix issue? |

I'm not too sure that it can be a problem with the QuickGPSfix file because if I read my manual and Home files correctly all it does is tell the GPS where the sat's should be so that the GPS chip knows which sat's to look at and get the fix that little bit quicker. Once the signal is received from the sat it also tells the GPS its location and therefore the QuickGPSfix file is made redundant. |

Well I can add little to help with this, as all that TomTom did in order to resolve it was tell me to to take it back for an exchange, which I did, and now have.
So no info from TomTom on WHY it was doing this.
They did seem very quick to sort an exchange out though, strangely! |

Hopefully someone will get response from the TomTom regarding this issue and clear up the mystery
Also, if someone (in the know) could enlighten us on the full mechanics of the QuickGPSfix, this may (of may not) rule out the QuickGPSfix.
Let’s watch and see |

Just spoken to someone who is knowledgeable about these things. He is pretty certain that the ephemeris adjusts for the distortion of the satellites orbits due to atmospheric changes. He said that if the satellitte is 100 metres higher or lower than expected it can give a inaccurate reading. Of course it also has the effect of finding the sattelites quicker.
He doubts that Tomtom compile the settings themselves but would get them from NASA, they could however, put the info into the files to download and it would easily be possible for them to make a mistake in this process. |

Hi Folks
All these theory’s are all very interesting but the fact remains that not everyone appears to be affected by this problem. We are all using the same satellites so why are certain users Zapped and others unscathed. It’s all very puzzling. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Well......while we are all using the same satellites, two things come to mind: 1) we are all in different locations around the globe (well, Europe & NA, mainly) so maybe the impact of the satellite signal differes from user to user at any given point in time and 2) not everybody locks into the same number of satellites at a given point in time, so that may have an effect and for the 3rd of my two reasons maybe the faulty gps data, if there is, affects just some of the satellites that people lock into and the errors screw up the users' location while others are not locked into the faulty satellite(s) so they don't get the problem.
I've run outta reasons ......... |

Maybe there is an intermittent fault with all our TT520/720 units?
Is this fault only showing on people that have had their 520/720 for at least a few months? |

Is everyone that is experiancing this fault using TomTom Home to download the Quick GPS data? - the reason I ask is that I do not do this with my devices and I have not experianced the fault at all. - Mike |
