Back to Friday's view today (monday) - i.e. I don't get the option to purchase. very confusing - will wait a while to see if it settles down.

Agreed, it is very confusing. Crying or Very sad

However, today I was able to order a "free via post" 2008 EU NT DVD. Smile

Once it arrives I then have to pay $88 including tax to unlock it, for my Nuvi 250 bought in October.

I thought they had given up sending out upgrade DVD's until you had paid the unlock cost?

As not, it would be better to put a link on the Maps page making it easier to order the DVD. As it was it took me about 1/2 hour to find the correct way to "order" the DVD Evil or Very Mad

Hi,

How exactly did you do this please? I can't find a page other than the one which asks me for $129! A step by step instruction would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

- Sign In to MyGarmin.
- Click MapSource Unlock.
- Click Purchase Additional region.
- It will ask for your Serial Number. Make a note of your Coupon Code as you will need it later.
- Click "Option other than Purchasing additional Region".
- Click Unlock Update Disk.
- Click the various follow through screens.
After this you have the option to order the disk, or unlock it.

Let us know if it works OK for you Very Happy

Thanks - seems to have worked for me. Tried that route a day or two ago and got nowhere. Maybe, as suggested above, they are enabling this model by model. Or maybe it's a screwup!

Many thanks for your post

Thanks Chastreo.

What a convoluted process - surely Garmin could come up with an easier method than this, perhaps a button at the top level that says "I would like to buy the latest mapping upgrade"?

I finally ordered the the DVD thanks to the instructions. One thing I noticed was the $ price to unlock was the same roughly as the £ price for the DVD. Wonder what I'll choose... Rolling Eyes

I have a Nuvi 660 with European NT v9 maps which I was considering updating to the latest maps if the upgrade cost was in the region of £30 to £40. (According to previous posts)

At $129 (£65 - £70), I'll no longer consider it. With the costs of new sat nav's falling, technology changing, new european satallites to be launched in a couple of years - By then I'll willl have saved enough to buy a latest gadget Smile It probably won't be Garmin! I'm still Censored at Garmin because they have sold me a GTM21 with the unit that unfit for purpose and they won't do anything about it. No upgrade for extra features like storing routes. Not that i'm a Tom Tom fan but the map share feature is stroke of genius - get the customers to advise the changes.

It's actually worse than that - I went through the order process and got to the checkout screen - they had added 17.5% VAT and postage (I think) and the final price was about $170. At that point I just closed the browser Crying or Very sad

The problem is the maps are very expensive in the first place. Whilst Garmin will make a profit (and why not) if the map makers sell them for a high price then Garmin will have to as well. No point in getting annoyed with Garmin over it.

I made the decision when v9 came out to buy every other set of maps. Whilst i'd like to get the v10 for my i3 i feel it's getting a bit out of date for something i use every day. I like the look of the 7xx series and i'm looking forward to the review of the 8xx series, so i'll hold off and put the money towards a new unit with v10 maps.

Amazon appear to be offering the upgrade for £46.66, although it's not showing as available for 4-6 weeks:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Garmin-European-City-Navigator-Update/dp/B0012XKCMU/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_1

Update:18 Feb. Discount no longer applied, so price is now £60, but still on a long delivery

FWIW went through the convoluted process, yesterday, to order update for my C510D and succeeded in ordering DVD for free. Unlock cost according to confirmatory e-mail was $75.00. Will have to wait and see when (if?) disk arrives.

The question is - does the Amazon price include the unlock code?
I did have MyGarmin tell me it was £59 yesterday - but no way of ordering it! Today it's telling me $129.99 - and I could order it. I'll continue to wait.

Surely Amazon could not sell a DVD which cannot be used without also purchasing an unlock code as well?
