What causes a satnav to go wrong and then reappear as 'factory refurbished?' Are they better value for money ? Seems to me that 1000's must be going wrong.

Hi FrequentFlyer,
I suspect that in the UK, a lot of "factory refurbished" units are ones bought via the internet and returned (for what ever reason) under the distance selling regulations. A lot of these devices will be perfectly usable with nothing wrong - but once used they can't be sold as new, so they're off loaded as "factory refurbished".
Other units may have been damaged (i.e. dropped, incorrectly connected to the power or the PC, etc) by the original owner, who may have got the broken unit replaced by warranty or insurance. These units would need to be fixed either by the manufacturer or a third party.
It's always a case of caveat emptor with factory refurbished units. You need to take into consideration the cost, availability, and warranty of the new unit verses the factory refurbished unit.
