So I'm using the 603 that came with a 605 Map for my old Classic GO. _________________ Richard

Here it is Andy. TomTom's reply to that letter previously in this topic.
TomTom wrote: | Dear Ian,
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support
To install the Postcode files to your TomTom, youjust need to download the map, however it looks like for some reason, it did not download the new postcode files for you.
To make this easy for you, we have attached the correct postcode files to this email. Please do the following:-
- Connect the TomTom to the PC and switch it on
- Open My Computer, you will see the TomTom there as a removable storage device, double click into it.
- You will see the 'Zip' folder, double click into it.
- Delete the existing files inside the zip folder.
- Download the attached file and save it to your desktop
- Extract the files
- Copy the extracted files and paste them directly into the Zip folder on the TomTom device.
You should now have the new postcode files installed on your PC.
The files attached are the most up to date postcode files.
With Best Regards
The TomTom Customer Support Team |
And i also got the attached postcodes but i did'nt get the .ver files, just the POSTAL file. So i cannot even check if it is the v701 postcodes which is supposed to come with the v710 map. what do you think to their reply and should i install them or ask for the .ver file. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

You could always reply with something like:
Thank you for the postcodes file. Just to satisfy my curiosity, could you tell me what version it is as there was no ".inf" file with it, so "Home" cannot tell me.
I doubt you'll get anywhere but it's worth a try....
Tell us how big Windows Explorer reports the file as (right click on the file and select "properties" then say exactly what it says for "size" and "size on disk" (should be four numbers))
We can then check it against a few other versions to see if it matches any of those. |

Congratulations, you've got the newest version I've ever seen!
I shall be on to them again now... Would you mind if I quoted you?
And no need to apologise, I love this sort of detective work! |

Do not sent it Andy
TomTom have sent me the Netherlands postcodes which is version 704. How stupid can you get. I really cannot believe this, I am about to blow up with TomTom. How the hell can they send me postcodes for a different Country when thet know i am in the UK and told them it was UK v504 postcodes i had.
I am about to open a bottle of Miller Genuine Draft to calm down. The first time i have had a bottle before 8.30 PM for a long time. .
Should also say that if you remember i sent my SD card to TomTom for a warranty repair because there back-up overwrote the previous one which made me loose my origional map. After telling me it is covered under warranty i now have an e-mail saying i owe them £50 for v675 W+CE map. So you must know how i am feeling right now.
After these i will let you know how i feel later on. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

Andy which is the actual postcode file and where is it.
I have just checked through my bits on my computer and browsed the 910 stuff and the 720 stuff and can't find anything that relates to postcodes specifically.
I was reckoning that the 720 file would be the latest one?.... if i can find it!!. |

Both version 701 GB and version 704 Netherlands are currently hosted on a site available to everyone. Andy has made it clear that nobody is allowed to link to it but it is easily found.
As I see it, if you have bought a TomTom device or new map you are entitled to the corresponding postcode file so it’s not theft like a pirate map would be. |

If you open up (wordpad) on your computer then go to file ot the top and then open. Search for your TT and then go to the zip folder, then open the .ver folder and you will see the version you have there. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

Thanks Ian, i know how to find them normally. As i said through home i can get my files up but through the computers tt home folders i.e. back ups downloads etc, it wont show a zip file.
Any other files i try to open and wordpad wont respond. Could be a prob with my system.
It's obvious my 910 has an old postcode file 514 WITH the 710 maps.
Only TT can do that
Thanks anyway. |

Not sure what you are meaning Go-Go but the problem I was having was solved if i open wordpad first then look for the files through wordpad it seems to show the files ok. Does this help. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)
