Hi All,

this is my first post so can I firstly thank everyone for the great info on here!

After returning two 720T's before Christmas after them locking up with the big red cross following a software update I am now on to my second 520T after the TMC socket broke on the first one during it's first main journey. Four TT Go's in four weeks - hmm Very Happy

Fortunately, I have almost got the current 520T - after one week of ownership - setup with my chosen POI's and speed cameras, courtesy of PGPSW and a lot of perseverance! The one problem I am now having is with the warning settings for some POI's and all of the speed camera's.

I had orginally used the TTS facility available and typed in my desired warnings. However, after these disappeared twice following connecting my TT to my PC I then discovered the sound files on this site so installed these (http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/tomtom-ogg-files.php). However, I am now having the same problem - after every docking session with my PC the settings are lost.

Can anyone out there help me with this please?

Oh - in case it is connected I also seem to have lost the startup tune. However, does come back after a reset but disappears again.

It's still a problem (thankfully it only happens occassionally to me).
TomTom are denying it's their problem, if you complain and mention you have PGPSW camera files, which isn't a lot of help as they advertise the TT range as being compatible with third-party POIs.

The easiest get-round I've found is to get it just as you like (with the typed-in warnings OR the recorded voices from here), and then make a copy of the "MapSettings.cfg" file from the map folder (got it right this time Richard! Wink ).

I keep a copy on my PC AND a copy on the TomTom itself (in a different place to the map folder). Then if the settings ever get forgotten, it's a simple matter to just copy the file back from the PC (or if I'm away from home, I can borrow someone else's PC and copy the backup file from the Go itself).

I missed your last question...
Not having the start-up tune is perfectly normal. You should only hear it after the TomTom re-boots (eg after disconnecting from the PC), not on a normal switch on.

I only get it after a Reset, not a PC Disconnect.

Oh all right, cleverclogs!
You're right of course. Any idea what the difference is technically?

(By the way, as punishment found I'd lost all my warnings again this morning!) Laughing

It's annoying when this happens, and you don't realise it until you are on the road and driving past those Gatso's with no warnings!. Even more annoying when, after following advice, you've dutifully copied the MapSettings.cfg file to your pc at home to restore settings only to find you need the file on your pc at work.

I've realised that loss of settings has happened to me every time I have added/deleted mp3 files to the SD Card using Home.

I'm thinking of using a card reader to do this in the future, bypassing Home and using Explorer, in the hope this will make a difference. Though I'm sure the answer won't be that easy!

Using the Reset actually disconnects the battery from the electronics, thereby removing the Base Program from Core Memory.

The way to turn off completely the older Devices so that they didn't drain the battery if stored for a long period. Don't know if it works for the newer Devices.

If you get the TomTom Tune, when you switch on, you know that the Reset has been long enough. Smile

When connected to the PC the Base Program is still held in Core Memory, and only has to re-read current data from SD Card/Flash Memory, in case something has changed.

That's why I now keep a copy on the Go itself too now.

And thanks Oldboy, perfect answer as ever... Smile Any idea how "pulling the SD card out and replacing it" compares to either of the other situations? (obviously on a machine that uses the SD card as the main memory).

Just guessing here, but I would think that the switch that senses when the Card is inserted, cuts power to the memory.

It gives the same response .... but whether is coincidence, or not, I don't know.

We still haven't got to the bottom of exactly when/how this happens.

Yesterday it lost them again, and I hadn't connected to the PC at all. Today I have connected to the PC several times, (both to do copy and paste jobs with explorer AND to play with Home), and they haven't disappeared.
I'd agree, it seems more likely to lose them after a PC or Home connection, but that's not the whole story... Crying

So far, fingers crossed, since making a back-up I haven't had to use it.

Cheers guys!
