Confused After much trouble updating to TomTom Home 2 (don'y let it delete TTH1) and loosing all my backups I finally got the device to work using the 30 sec hold down trick but immediatly after bootup the screen goes blank so I tried the 30 sec trick again and noticed the linux text "Startup Mode" showed SLEEP. The only way I can see my device is via Home 2 but nowhere can I find a reference to SLEEP MODE HELP HELP HELP

I've never seen a reference to Sleep Mode, so we need a bit more detail. Smile

Do you mean you can see the Virtual Device in HOME? Or just the contents of the Unit?

Can you see the Contents of the Unit with Windows Explorer?

Do you know the Version of Software on the Unit? And the Map Version.

Have you got a Backup, done with Explorer?

Have you added, or removed, anything? Either manually, or with HOME.

Sorry for the delay in reply but lets just say I'm glad December is almost over.
I can see the entry to sleep mode on the Tom Tom screen when I connect to the USB cable connected to my computer and press and hold the on of button in. This shows various lines of info including "Startup Mode.............SLEEP"
Im not sure if its the contents or the virtual device in Home 2 but when I try to change the startup mode from "LAST USED" to any other say Route entry it doesn't change but reverts to last used

I can read the flash card via Windows Explore but some of the files, I suspect, are Linux files which I cannot read

I downloaded a mass of info data from the unit 2 lines of which show
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7162
ApplicationVersion=8492
(above is not a typo thats how it reports)

Ive found the backups I did with home 1 but Home 2 does not report them

I didn'y copy the card using Explorer but if I just copy the last working backup files onto the card do you think it is likely to trash the card or is it worth a try (at my own risk)

I updated several things manually and connected to Tom Tom Home which immediatly updated whilst my unit was connected after which I got the problem

You could try Reset to Factory Settings, on the last page of Change Preferences, to see if that helps.

The other thing to try is the Clear Flash Utility. It seems to help in different situations.

If that doesn't then the 3rd paragraph of This Post describes how to re-install a clean version of the software.

In your case you could try copying the files, similarly named to those you deleted, from the HOME1 Backup first.
