Installing Content Manager and Synching with Device on Vista

I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit on my laptop.
I have a X-970T v7.0.3 (Build 166) New GPS unit.
I have successfully installed and synchronised and registered my device on my PC but as I travel a lot I need to do the same on my laptop..

My first attempt some days ago was a failure, so with Forum users help/suggestions I downloaded and translated the French set up guide for Vista.
Today I have spent (so far) five hours on trying to install the Content Manager, Windows Mobile Device Centre, following the instructions as far as possible, on my laptop and although each separate part of the operation has been successful in that the 970 is recognised by the Device Centre and I can access the files on the device, I cannot get the Content Manager to synch with the 970. Each time I try, I get an error message saying an error occured whilst communicating with the mobile navigation system.

Any suggestions peeps, before I do something drastic

Further to that. Just had a thought

Does Content Manager only synch with the 970 if the Activation Code I entered after registration is the same I entered on both the device and on VM I suspect that as I re-registered the device as part of the installation on the laptop it could be different to the one I entered when I set it up on the PC.
Could that be the problem. Thing is, I cannot find any tech support helpline number to ask VM & I think Stu is away somewhere. Is there one?
