Personal points of interest

I'm looking for a portable GPS which I can easily switch between cars as well as carry around with me as well for when I go walking on occasions. I like the look and feel of the Garmin 250 with Europe and UK streets installed.

My main question however, is how easy is it for me to manage my own POI database and keep it updated on this ? So far, my database is about 10,000 in size. Is it as easy as keeping a database on an Excel spreadsheet and using a USB cable to import the data across ?

Can I for instance put the information onto different layers and turn them on/off ?

Would I need an SD card and how much data can you store on the device before it becomes too full ?
