Switching maps from old machine to new one.

I couldn't find this in the sticky section.

How can I move my maps from an old machine to a new one. I know that maps are authorized to only 1 machine at a time and so it probably is not possible to copy them to the new machine and expect them to work.

What is the deal, does TomTom have to do something to allow this, or can I do the procedure all on my own? Just what exactly IS the procedure to follow?

The old method is to take the "product code" of your map and the "device code" of your hardware and enter them both into www.ttcode.com. This will generate a new "activation code" that you enter into the TomTom when it asks you to activate the map on the new machine. You can only activate it on a new machine every six months IIRC. There are instructions at www.ttcode.com too.

When you buy a new map, the security process is now done via Home. Whether what it is doing is exactly the same I'm not sure, but you have to have your registered device connected when you buy and download a map, so it seems likely.
