I have been offered these units for around the same price (~£160), i've never used a tomtom before so could anyone pass comment on how they perform in comparison?
Are map updates available free or do they reqire to be purchased? Can i tell from the version number the age of the maps which are supplied?

New or Second-hand? The Go710 is a discontinued device and they weren't much more than that when new.

The iCN750 is quite outdated now so forget that.

Personally I'd get a TomTom ONE XL, they have a wide-screen like the 710 but it's larger and brand new it will cost you about £180.00

Thanks, yes they are new, supplied from a natiuonal retailer. As far as pricing, one ogf the guys at work bough a 710, cost was around £400 at the time. Does the Tomtom one XL have european mapping at that price as the 710 does?

One year ago today ( Embarassed - Before midnight it was one year ago!) I paid £355 for my new GO710.

I don't want to push anything, but on the right hand side of this page, TOTALPDA are advertising refurbished GO700s for £119. I have always regretted passing mine on to son-in-law when I started on the GO720 trail. I love the 720, but that 700 was really great - better speaker than any others for hands free phone calls. Not only street level Europe, but also North America too.

The 710 has a better GPS chipset, but I equalled that by having an external aerial.

TomTom maps never come free. Right now (until 31st January???) they have an offer of "half" price new maps.

I keep trying to ignore that TotalPDA advert, in case I give in to temptation and buy one!

The ONE XL comes in two versions, Regional (just UK & Ireland), Europe is £30 dearer.

My dad's mate has a Go 300, and although thex00's are more stable than current units, they are lacking features now and look very very old (if thats possible for a sat nav!).

My vote would probably be for an XL as well, or if you only need UK mapping, you can get a Go 520 for just £200 now from amazon! With a decent sized SD card, you can stick europe mapping on at a latest date.

Yes the XL with Euro mapping is about £180, it's a current model with a bigger screen than the 710.
