. . . that is the standard colour for links without you having to do anything clever.

Well, you learn something every day on this forum. Obviously I've been wasting my time! Confused Smile

I find the easy way is to select the link text so it is all highlighted then use the "Font Colour" box above to change it to red:

(url=http://www.wordwiseweb.com/2004/buntin/arrows/image/thank_you_(arrow).jpg)(b) (color=red)HERE(/color)(/b)(/url)

Note the ( and ) should be altered to [ and ] for the forum code to pick up what you are intending to do - Mike
Mike et al., I can see why you are putting () in for [], but I've found that if you use the (Code) (/Code) buttons, it will not try to interpret the text within. So you can have
Code:
[url=http://www.wordwiseweb.com/2004/buntin/arrows/image/thank_you_(arrow).jpg][b] [color=red]HERE[/color][/b][/url]
to show learners EXACTLY what to type!

Also, I don't think that red is, necessarily, the default colours of the links, I think that depends on the settings in your browser. That's why I always set the colour.

That's a handy one to remember, thanks.

Could be, but not totally convinced yet...
For example, on another forum I use a lot, the links come out red but not underlined, so I always add a manual underline to make it stand out more.
So I reckon its the board's settings not your browser's ones, otherwise wouldn't the behaviour be the same for all of them?

Be careful though, people, otherwise your posts will end up looking like this bloke's:

Maybe a combo of both!

Every now and again, BGF passes us a pearl of wisdom and we all stumble away, heads hanging and wondering where we all went wrong!! Just one tiny ignoramus comment though - if it's your browser settings, then presumably you're accustomed to seeing whatever result that gives, red, underlined, magenta, whatever. Therefore to insert a different colour or other attribute may give that particular reader a hard time?

A valid point, but I started doing it after it became apparent that some people didn't realise that links were being posted. I'd see comments like "you said have a look at this page, but you've forgotten to include the URL". Both IE & FF can be set to ignore the colours on the page and in fact I think they can be set not to highlight links, so I may well be wasting my time. Laughing

FF certainly can. Don't know about IE.

I use "Let pages choose their own colours", the default. If this option is unticked you can also remove the underline for Links, as well as change the colours.
