Andy can you re-check the postcode given again, I don't have it listed but there are lots of BN6 codes listed on my 720 and One XL - Mike
Sorry, must have been either a typo or the way it lists them. I put in BN69, and it came up with BN6 at the top of the list (only 2 showing) so arrow down and get
BN20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27
BN3
BN41,42,43,44,45
BN5
BN7
BN8
BN9,99
but there's still no BN69
Any one able to check in Home what the version number that comes "out of the box" with a 720 and v7.05 maps? (save me having to re-install to satisfy my curiosity.

How can I get hold of the new postcodes? I have just downloaded WE 710.1561, but if I look into the Zip folder the date for the Great_Britain.Postal folder is 26/1/2006. But TomTom doesn't inform me that there is a newer one if I connect to TomTom Home.

It just appeared in the list when I connected to Home this morning.
BUT... EVERY TIME I connect, it still offers me my old UK and IE map from my old Go300, which I always un-tick. However a few days ago I accidently let it start downloading. I aborted it straight away (it was never going to fit on the Flash memory anyway), but I'm wondering if it has decided to download some old file for that map? Surely not?
But what version did I have before this. I can see I'm going to have to do a restore to find out

So you don't get offered any of the pages that look like :
OK the specific postcode is missing, but there are plenty of BN69 codes listed, this is with the original postcode data supplied with the unit, nodoubt it has improved elsewhere, but it would appear a section is missing from the file you are using - Mike

Right, some one on another forum has just told me that the version that came supplied with their 720 approx 2 months ago, according to Home 2 is version 701 size 8.9 MB .
So, apologies, it seems the whole thing is a red herring, but why the Hell did Home send it to me? I must have connected up at least two or three times a day over the last week and it's never offered it before.
Better try to get the originals back of a backup...

No new post code file offered Andy, my device is showing V701 8.9MB dated 26-04-2007 which is the same as the one in my original backup as the unit came out of the box.
Search on the BN69GB gives me the same list as Mike posted. _________________ Graham.

OK, panic over, for me at least.....
I checked back on ALL my backups for the 720
In the zip folder, as well as the postcodes file iself is a ver file (Great_BritainPostal.ver). That file will open in Notepad and tell the version number, without having to install it and look in Home.
My "day one" backup (05/08/07) and the one after that (02/09/07) both have ver 701 postcodes.
My next one and any after that had ver 603!. Wherr they came from is a mystery, but I've re-installed the zip folder from my "day one" backup and all is fine. It shows as version 701 and I can now see LOTS of BN69 postcodes, thanks Mike for the headsup there.
All that remains is for other people to work out why their versions aren't what they would expect....

Do you still get updates/ Home trying to download a map for your previous device? - I wonder if its downloaded the postcode data intending it for your dead unit, but somehow installed it to the 720? - Mike

Yes the map tries to download everytime. Only once did I forget to untick it and I aborted the download straight away, but maybe the postcodes got there first!
This was the first time I actually got a specificly mentioned postcodes download, which was why I got all excited.
Can you think how I can get rid of the old map? It's been suggested before (for the TT cameras I think) that you can download but not install them, but with Home 2, this screen seems to be a "download and install" all in one go operation.

Had a weird postcode problem today. I have 2 tt500's, one (ref a) was updated 1 wk ago, the other (ref b) as out of the box 2years old approx.
Put in WS4 1ES on both machines. Road name "Station Road", real location 1.75 miles north of Walsall ring road, off Lichfield Road. TT refb put it in WS14 Shenstone Lichfield Approx 7 miles to the east of true location. TT ref a with the latest post codes has it in WS6 which is about 10miles northwest by j17 m6toll!
Double checked on Autoroute 2007, which puts it in the right location.
So there have been changes to the post code file, put not for the better. Generally they are correct, but when you have 3 locations all called Station Road, Walsall and the software sends you to the wrong one, because its the only Station Road, Walsall on file, go figure!
Used Mapshare to try to correct this, put its just not brilliant for this type of correction. _________________ Want to get lost, forget your Tomtom next time you go out?
